101 Days of Gratitude - Day #79

Halloween Fondant
Cupcake Toppers
from mjtabush

Today I'm grateful for Halloween! It's so much fun to see the kids in costumes and for adults to be kids again, even if it's just for a day. It's the one day a year you can pretend to be anything you want...but I suppose you really can be anything you want on any given day!
Happy All Hallows Eve!

101 Days of Gratitude - Day #78

Today I'm grateful for the opportunity to be a substitute for one of the current members of my former BNI Chapter, Network Exchange. It's a fantastic chapter of Business Networking International filled with professionals completely committed to quality client care. I had the opportunity to expand my network of professionals and share my resources with the group. It's always fun to go back and catch up with everyone...even if the meeting does start at 7:00 a.m.!

Vintage Metal Organization
Drawer Cabinet
from LathandPlaster

Today I'm grateful for a weekend to clean and tidy the house, prepare food for the coming week and get myself organized before the chaos strikes. It's the calm before the storm, if you will. I'm really glad to have a weekend to decompress from a hectic week and prepare for the next one.

Crayon Art from PepperboxCreations

Today I'm grateful for the opportunity to critique Kishwaukee College landscape design students. It's invigorating to go 'back to school' and be a part of academia for a day. I always find the fresh perspective of students to be intriguing and inspiring.

For When She Wakes...
Quote Print from MiraDoson

Today I'm grateful for being able to sleep until I wake up...no alarm, just waking to my natural rhythm. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if we lived by life's rhythm instead of the man-made concept of time. I hypothesize that in the end, we would be more productive if left to the rhythms of nature. And for today, that's what I'm going to do!

Yes, it is technically Sunday since I'm publishing this post at 12:28 a.m.! And now to sleep and wake whenever my eyes open!

Texas Wildflowers
from ShanaMH

Today I'm grateful that a business acquaintance I haven't spoke with for over a year was kind enough to remember me and invite me to Doug Tallamy's 'Bringing Nature Home' lecture today. It's nice to know I made a lasting impression with my work. And made a friend at the same time!

101 Days of Gratitude - Day #67

Upcycled Wall Lamp
from deadpancharm
Today I'm grateful for random acts of kindness. It's refreshing to witness or be the recipient of a random act. It can be as simple as a compliment from a stranger. Or maybe a helping hand when you need it most. The best part about one of these acts of kindness...both parties benefit! It feels so good to do something kind for someone else.

If you're looking for ideas of some random acts, check out GP Random Acts on Facebook. A few of my favorites from the GPRandom Acts wall...

  • Crash a Wedding Registry to celebrate your wedding anniversary
  • Hang Tab Tear Sign...you know those signs with the phone numbers you can tear off...
  • Purchase groceries for a deserving family the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
  • Lipstick Sniper...leave an inspiring message on a bathroom mirror

They currently have a Call to Kindness underway where you can post random acts of kindness you've done for someone else. There are some great ideas!! Check it out, 'like' GP Random Acts and share the kindness!

Queen Size Rag Quilt
from southerncharmquilts
Today I'm grateful for this time of year when it's chilly enough at night for a comforter. I've always loved the feeling of being snuggled under a heavy heap of blankets. I suppose it comes from growing up in an old, drafty farm house and sleeping under a pile of quilts and comforters. I still love that feeling!

Today I'm grateful for the fantastic network of contacts I've made over the years through BNI. As a former member of the Network Exchange chapter I serve as a substitute for members when they are unable to attend the weekly meetings. It's a perfect fit! I have an opportunity to keep up with everyone and it helps me to expand my network to which I can refer my friends and associates. I'm grateful for the relationships I've built through the group. It's worth being up before the sun!

101 Days of Gratitude - Day #62

Calligraphy Quote
from booksandpretzels
Today I'm grateful for having friends who generously and often say "I love you" to those around them. I'm incredibly blessed to be surrounded with so much love from my friends both life-long and new. Some of these friends are 'virtual', meaning I've never actually met them in real life! It's crazy to think that I can feel such a kinship and the love of friendship from across the miles and a computer screen. Others are friends I've known for years and years. Although miles may separate us I still feel as close to them as when we were roommates and shared our wild adventures of youth! The list is long and my heart is bursting with gratitude and love!

"WALK" 2x2 Tile Magnet
from 26MileStones
Today I'm incredibly grateful for my mobility. I'm grateful to be able to walk two landscape installation sites this morning to conduct final acceptance inspections. Two years ago this wasn't the case. I'm very fortunate to have found an interventional radiologist with the experience and expertise to place stents in my iliac vein and allow me to go on about my typical activity. Today I will not complain about walking a distance to the door. I'm just grateful that I'm able to walk!

101 Days of Gratitude - Day #59

"Deadline" Magnet
from HappyBugDesigns

Today I'm grateful for deadlines being pushed back! It's a pleasant surprise when a deadline is adjusted when there is a delay in the transfer of information. In most cases, even when the info coming down the pipeline to me is delayed, my deadline holds. It's refreshing to work with colleagues who can put themselves in my shoes and have reasonable expectations that don't involve me staying up all night to complete the work!

101 Days of Gratitude - Day #58

Phone Cover
from SomebodyElsesProject
Today I'm grateful for caller id. It always seems that marketing and sales calls come in bulk when I'm under a tight deadline and don't have time to waste explaining why I'm not interested in purchasing radio advertisements or a subscription to {insert stupid celebrity magazine name here}! With caller id I can choose to take the calls that are coming from clients and colleagues and let the others go to voicemail. Voicemail, another modern convenience for which I'm grateful.

First world problems, I know!!

101 Days of Gratitude - Day #57

'Choose Joy' Digital File
from mastomama
Today I'm grateful for living  in a country and culture that offers so many choices. This weekend we were looking over a menu in a restaurant and one of my friends commented on how great it was to have so many choices. At that moment it hit me that we really are blessed with a multitude of choices for nearly everything!

Think of what it would be like to have no choices...no choice for what to eat, what to drink, what to wear, where to live, what you do for livelihood, what to buy, how to raise our children, what to believe...we are truly blessed! Today I'll make many of these choices and more, and I'll feel very grateful!

101 Days of Gratitude - Day #56

Today I'm grateful for an extra long weekend filled with lifelong friends and lots of love! Although taking an extra day makes the rest of the work week a little more frantic, it's nice to have time to recoup and catch up with myself.

101 Days of Gratitude - Day #55

Today I'm grateful for new experiences. Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend a Bat Mitzvah at Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation. My understanding of Judaism is fairly limited. It was a beautiful shabbot service where this little girl accepts her place as an adult Jew with all the responsibilities and becomes a young woman in the eyes of her community.

I was also moved by the story of the Torah from which she read. It is centuries old, a scroll hand lettered in Hebrew. This particular Torah is from a Czechoslovakian Jewish community that was decimated by the Nazis. Only a few descendants remain. It was found at the end of World War II among other Jewish artifacts among the treasures the Nazis stole.

It was amazing to witness this lovely ritual and learn about a culture very different from my own. It was also interesting to see the similarities between Judaism and other religions. We are all so different yet one in the same.

101 Days of Gratitude - Day #53

Original Sign from trimblecrafts
Today I am most grateful for Girl's Weekends and life-long friendships! For the last nine years, three of us convene twice each year to catch up and have some fun. It's more than just a fun weekend. These are the moments that make my soul smile and my heart sing! These are two women I've known since middle school and college, for 30 and 23 years respectively...and yes, I did have to use a calculator!

Though our weekend escapades have changed over time, become a little less raucous, a few things never change. I will laugh more this weekend than I have since, well, the last time I saw these women. I will feel younger than usual. I will be rejuvenated and happily at peace. All of this from time with great friends!

These are special friendships that will last the rest of our lives. And friendships like this don't come along very often. They are to be celebrated and cherished! So, today I am grateful and I celebrate and cherish Becky and Kathryn! {Muwahhhh!}

'Weapon of Choice' Keychain
from riskybeads
Today I'm grateful for new walking shoes! I started walking again on my treadmill and I absolutely love it!! I've had the same pair of 'trainers' for a very, very, very long time. The tread is beginning to separate from the sole! After developing a HUGE blister on my little pinky toe because of my ill-fitting shoes, I decided it was time for new shoes. I found a pair of New Balance, which are Made in the U.S.A.! And my feet are so happy!

101 Days of Gratitude - Day #51

Today I'm grateful for reaching the halfway mark in the 101 Days of Gratitude Journey. Not because I'm halfway to the end but because of all of the amazing blessings that I have recognized so far and so many more that others have helped bring to light. I can not believe how incredibly amazing it is to read each person's entry for each day. Each of you remind me of so many more reasons I have to be grateful. Thank you all for sharing this journey with me!

101 Days of Gratitude - Day #50

Today I'm grateful for a restful night's sleep! I rarely have problems sleeping. I have no problem falling asleep or staying asleep. So when I have a night fraught with tossing and turning, it really gets to me! Sunday night was one of those nights and I felt groggy and off all day yesterday. After 10 hours of uninterrupted, deep sleep I feel like a different person than I was on Monday! Sweet, sweet sleep!

101 Days of Gratitude - Day #49

Hand Stamped Remembrance Necklace
from LillyEllen
Today I'm grateful that I've never personally suffered a tragic loss in my life. I have lost friends, really more of acquaintances but never a close, personal friend. I realized I've never processed the stages of grief. I've been so incredibly blessed!

Yesterday, I was reading through some of the gratitude posts on the Facebook event I created for 101 Days of Gratitude and I was once again reminded of just how blessed I am. As I was posting some nonsense about how happy I was to have a freezer, another person was posting that they were grateful for hospice bringing pain relief to a loved one. That's when it really struck me... I've not had to directly go through that kind of loss.

My grandparents have all passed but they either had serious health conditions or were in their 90's so they weren't huge surprises. Beyond that, I've never lost anyone really, really close to me. I have friends who lost their parents, some at a very young age. Others have lost siblings, a loss I will never have to endure. I have friends who have lost their soul mates and, perhaps the most tragic, those who have lost children.

As I think of these people, the struggle of losing someone so close to them and the emotional process of grieving those losses, I feel immensely blessed and grateful that I have lived to my age and still have those closest to me.
